Rabies on the Rise in California and Minnesota
Hey there fellow fuzzbutts! I have a safety message for all of you since I found 2 stories this week about rabies. You really need to remind your mom and dad to check with your vet and make sure you have had your vaccination.
Two states put out on the news that they have an increase in rabies this year. I want you to be save so, I figured I would have you check it out!
The first news I found is Increase in rabid bats found in LA County prompts concern. They are seeing people even getting bit by bats and having to have rabies shots. Normally you as a cat or dog will not be hanging out with a crew of bats but, ya just never know when another animal might. These bats might just bite a ground dwelling animal that you run out to chase and then it bites you....NO, now you could get rabies too.
Then the second story, Veterinarians urge pet owners to vaccinate for rabies comes in from Minnesota. They say there the most likely wild animals to get rabies are skunks, raccoons and foxes. Now just remember these are animals that many of us dogs and even some cats would be likely to hunt down and maybe even get bitten....NO, now you could get rabies too.
Even if you do not live in California or Minnesota go ahead and check your shot records. Just because I have not sniffed out a story about rabies in your area does not mean that there is none. Rabies is no joke!
If you have a pet ferret that even has a chance of getting rabies for you or another animal remember they need to have vaccines also. It is not just limited to cats and us dogs. Lots of animals can carry the disease and we need to try and keep ourselves and our families safe.
The only kind of rabies I ever want to see is one that I can snuggle with or tear up...yes, they have stuffed rabies toys! BOL! It does not look scary as a toy but, mom says the real thing is terrifying. It will make you really sick and there is no reason to even worry when all I gotta do is get a shot.
Stay safe my fellow 4 legged fuzzbutts,
Zed
