Good news for some dogs in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area!

To celebrate Spay Day 2011, City Council President Darlene Harris has propposed to set aside $170,000 to provide free spay and neutering of pets! They will start taking applications to have a pet "fixed" on the Pittsburgh City Site on March 1, 2011.

Sure there are a few rules like families are limited to having 5 pets spayed or neutered. Geesh, most people should be able to get their entire furry family done ( city code only allows 5 pets in a home anyway). I wonder if they would do kids? Ooops, never mind...pretend I didn't say that.

This extra money to help people get their pets fixed will save the city tons of money. They will eliminate so many unwanted animals that are born by mistake and then end up as strays or in the shelter. Ms. Harris says it cost the city $197.00 every time they have to pick up a stray cat or dog.

I did find the Animal Control page for the Pittsburgh spay and neuter programs.  I bet that is the page where you will soon see the new offer for free services. They also have links to some other programs that may help curb the cost. Applications will have to be approved by the Animal Control Office.

I just hope that the money and applications are used for people that really are responsible but, are just having a hard time with paying for the surgery. I know that in our area...they have people that just use these type of special funds because they are just to freakin cheap to pay...they can use that money to put gas in their brand new SUV. *GRRRR!*

Big note - Animals that are spayed/neutered live longer! So, get your pooch fixed. As for cats...do we really need them to live longer? Oh wait, if they are all fixed then there would be less of them. Hey, take that cat down and fix them too. I can only bark at so many cats in my lifetime.
