People Medicine Not Safe for Dogs

Hi Fuzzbutts!

I’m posting a warning for all of you today so, make sure you get all your people over here to read it. We want the whole family to watch out for this hazard. We sure do not want any of you to end up at the vets sick – or worse!

Many families have some human medication in their house. Most times people are realllllly careful to put it away where little kids can not get to it.

But, what about us pets? Can we get to it? Maybe there are not any kids in the house so the humans just do not think about it.

I found a list of the Top 10 list of human medications most frequently ingested by pets, along with some tips from the veterinarians at Pet Poison Helpline on how to prevent pet poisoning from human medications.

I’m not gonna steal their list so, you’ll have to click the link to see it.

I know that cats can get on counters and might knock any pill bottles on the floor thinking it is a toy…then us dogs could chew on it and get it broke open – Danger!

You also have people that may carry pills in their purse…Zoie is bad about digging in purses. She will get everything out if ya let her.

If ya have someone like Aunt Gerdie come to visit she may have her stash in her suitcase…yep, one of us is going to get in it. If those pills are in a plastic bag…it would not take but a second to have them all eaten.

My people do not have hardly any medication in the house but, if we ever went to Grandma's...she has a whole bunch of it just sittin around.

Oh and if you have to take some meds…make sure your mom or dad does NOT keep them near the human medicine. We sure do not want them mixed up.

The list above is only 10 kinds of medicine but, I would say to have your humans put all medicine of any kind in a safe place. Just because it is not on the list does not mean it will not hurt you.

Be safe my fellow Fuzzbutts!
