National Pet Cancer Awareness Month
November is National Pet Cancer Awareness Month. This is the second year that VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance) is having a walk to raise awareness of the number one killer of dogs and cats, with a three mile walk for people and their pets. This year, November 15th, they will be having that walk.
I was reading that cancer is most common in older dogs, over half of the dogs that get cancer will not live. When they are older, their bodies are more susceptible to disease.

Animal Cancer Foundation says that, “Dogs, and cats are 14 times more likely to get cancer then humans”.
Here is a good article that tells you all about cancer in dogs and list the warning signs to look out for. I read through it, and I think I am good, I have no signs of it.
All About Cancer in Dogs
So, be sure and check your old pooch out, and raise awareness about this horrible disease. And yes, be sure and check your cats out too, I may not like them much, but I would not wish that on any of them. I do wish to chase them, now THAT’S FUN!

People food thats good for dogs
I recently did an article on what people food you should NOT give your dog. Well, this one is what food you can give to your dogs and what is actually good to give them. These are things that you can simply put on their regular dog food and most likely they will love it. You can feel like you’re letting your dog have treats of yours, but in this case they are not harming them.
1) Eggs and Chicken – They are both very high in protean. They will help build muscle in a pretty active dog.
2) Carrots – They are very good for vision, for both people and dogs. Actually Vets recommend putting cooked or raw chopped carrots mixed with their food.
3) Tomatoes – Very good for building up an immune system. Though these are better if prepared cook and REALLY mashed, the skins can get caught in their throats and tend to bother them.
4) Fruit – Most fruit is very good for dogs. Helps with their digestive system and colon.
5) Fish Oil – Very good for your dogs. Helps with their skin and coat.
6) Grains – Grains are wonderful for your dog. Brown rice is especially good for them.
7) Greens – Any kind of green are absolutely awesome for your dog.
These are just a few things you can give your dog off your dinner plate and know it’s good for them. You can also make some extra Carrots or whatever just for your dog. They could always use some good stuff. We all know the food is NOT near as good at fresh veggies and grains.. etc.
Hope everyone got some good information out of this.
Much love to all my fellow pooches.

People food thats not for dogs
I know that some of you guys really like to give your dogs food off the table. Yes, I love when my people give stuff to me, BUT what you may not know is, some people food you give to your dogs could actually be harming them. So here are some tips on what to NOT give your dog.
1) Dough. It can rise in their stomach if they eat to much. Since it’s mushy most of them don’t chew it which can also make them choke.
2) Chocolate. It can cause heart problems, kidney problem and vomiting/diarrhea.
3) Onions/Garlic. They can cause dogs to lose blood cells. Or not produce them. It can cause loss of hunger. Also makes them dizzy. Though it takes quite a few pieces of onion to cause damage.
4) Avocados. YOU DON’T WANT TO GIVE THOSE TO YOUR DOG. They are absolutely horrible for them. They have a toxin in them that causes damage to their whole bodies.
5) Alcohol. Please watch out, even though you may not think you dog would get into it. If you have a beer on the table and walk off, you dog could spill it. If your dog consumes alcohol it could get alcohol poising very easily.
6) Grapes/Raisins. They can give dogs stomach and digestive system problems. Those problems can lead into vomiting, and the runs (Poops).
7) Energy Things. Any kind of energy things/bars can cause a fast heartbeat. This may lead to a heart attack.
8) Nuts. You really don’t want to give them nuts. Can cause stomach issues and intestine problems.
Always watch out at what you give them. You might not think anything about it, but it’s best to be safe then sorry.
