About the Saluki Dog

Ok so I was snooping around on the computer and I came across this uber cool dog. It is called the Saluki. When I saw this dog I was like WOW, I have to show people this!

Although I am sure many people have seen these dogs because they are the OLDEST known domesticated dog! Saluki dogs are so old, they found the first one that was mummified back in 2100 BC. WOW! I have no idea when that even was, I do not think there was any Zoie dogs back then.

They come from Egypt where there they were worshiped as “Royal Dogs”. The Egyptians were not allowed to sell these dogs, as that would lead to bad luck. But they were GIVING away for good luck. That was me, I was giving to my peoples for good luck, and look. Their lives have been full of joy and luckiness ever since I got here! They just will not admit it!

These dogs are related to the Afghan Hound. But the Afghan guys were not as lucky as the Saluki’s, cuz they were not worshipped. Someone got cheated out of that deal!

They love to run and be really active, so if you want one, you should totally have a huge yard and take them for walks. Believe it or not, they are not hyper dogs, even if they do like to run all the time.

They are pretty chilled as far as attitude goes, but they do not like little rowdy kids. I have never been around kids, but I have heard horror stories about them. And actually, since these dogs are so thin, they can get hurt more easily. Do not think though, they if you make em fat they will be ok around kids…um…no!

When it come to training, be nice with them. Where some dogs like me, need a firm voice because we are so stubborn, they need someone to be gentle and have a softer voice. They are really smart so they are easier to train then some dogs!

Greyhound dogs are the fastest dog, they can run up to 45 MPH, but the Saluki can run about 35-40. WOW! I do not think I could drink enough of my peoples coffee to run that fast. That is as fast as those racecars on TV (almost).

Since they do not have that much hair, they can get REALLY sun burnt if you do not watch out, and even though they are thin, they can get over heated! So be careful and do not leave them in the heat for very long!

KendraThis is a wonderful article about Salukis, Miss Zoie! It caught my eye because my university mascot was a Saluki at Southern Illinois University. Woohoo!
