A Little About the Sheepdog

These dogs are commonly called bobtails. They were reared alongside the sheep and sheared as the sheep were being sheared too. Their origin is not very clear. A sheepdog was identified by its docked tail. This meant that the dog’s purpose was herding sheep and should not be taxed. This dog can make good pet at home. Here are some of the tips that you should consider when selecting bobtails for pets.

When you are looking for a dog that can keep guard of you, look for a sheepdog. This dog is brave and intelligent despite their small size. It can guard you against dangers at various places. Bobtails relate well with humans and are therefore fit for pet in the house.

The dog is also good for those people who have families. Bobtails can relate well with children of above 10 years. However, young kids are not friendly with this dog since they pull its long hair. This disgusts the dog and makes it retaliate to the kids to discourage them from doing so. They can get well along with other kinds of pets like cat or other breeds of dogs.

A mature sheepdog has a height of about 24 inches utmost and a maximum weight of 100 pounds. These dogs are expensive and a high quality breed will cost up to a 1000 dollars.

There are stray sheepdogs that are ready to be adopted. These dogs can run from their owners as a result of getting mistreated. Bobtails are fast learners and always eager to please their master. When their master is not compatible with them, they run to seek new shelter.

Avoid sheepdogs if you have young children as they don’t get well along with kids. Moreover, a sheepdog dog requires a lot of grooming which will force a person who has sometime to attend to it occasionally. Its lifespan averages to 12 years.

The best sheepdogs that you can keep are those that are young. It is normally hard to train a mature dog and one should therefore look for a young sheepdog. An already trained puppy can also be unsuitable since it will be difficult for the new master to make it change the ways that it has already been taught.

The next best sheepdog you could possibly get would bee a plush stuffed sheepdog. They make excellent pets for small kids or people that do not have time to train and exercise a real sheepdog.
